In Round 10, the Melbourne Football Club is coming to the Gold Coast to play St Kilda at the Gold Coast Stadium.
All Queensland-based members and supporters are invited to attend an exclusive function the night before the game.
Join us at the team hotel, where you will hear from senior coach Dean Bailey and GM Football, Chris Connolly, on the eve of the game.
Sounds good. Not sure about heading down the freeway 2 nights in a row.
Demonland has the full rap.
Have posted this from gsmith due to troubles linking to threads on demonology.
Training did not commence until 6 pm and was very low key.
Exercises, run throughs, hand passing drills and some casual kicking.
Scott West was overseeing some centre clearance work however it was too far away to comment on.
Cheney and Dunn were in attendance however both stated that they weren't in the selected side and would fly back to Melbourne today.
The dinner was a great event made even greater when one of my boys won the raffle for a signed Demon guernsey.
Jeff White was due to attend however he had an accident stepping out of the bath and was a late scratching - true story.
Chris Connolly was MC and promoted the club in his usual exuberant fashion. He spread himself around the tables and showed genuine interest in the supporters.
Jake Spencer's parents travelled from Townsville to attend - pleasant folk.
Others to speak were Dean Bailey, Peter Spargo, Don McLardy, Jack Grimes and Cale Morton.
The Lindemans shiraz was very tasty.
Points of interest.
Dean Bailey explained that the group were fitter and improving their foot skills hence the better score board results.
Younger players will be rested from time to time, as per Bennell, to give their bodies time to recover.
Players who do not adhere to team rules will be given a spell at Casey, refer Robbo.
Expect further player movements around the field, like Morton to a HBF, as he seeks to mould a multi skilled side.
Grimes and Morton are two well spoken young fellows with leadership written all over them, very impressive.
Grimes will end up a full time mid fielder.
Dunn is considered to be a forward/mid fielder although Dunn himself wants a mid field role.
The quality and expertise of the new board were emphasised and Jimmy's tireless work was acknowledged.
Our relationship with the MCC will produce advantages over the other tenants which will become evident in time eg training runs at the G.
Another debt demolition night will be forthcoming later in the year when it is hoped the debt will be completely wiped.
Whilst the club has been shafted with recent fixturing, which resulted from dissent directed at the AFL by previous administration, this will improve.
It was made clear that the AFL are the boss and you antagonise them at your peril.
That said, Peter Spargo was quite clear in saying that the AFL administration were a very smart group who have provided our new board with significant assistance since the restructure.
