History / About Us

Based in urban Melbourne, the club was originally formed in 1963 by immigrants with a Serbian background who relocated to Australia in search of better life opportunities. Mr. Ostoja Pekic is credited with being the first founding member and was quickly joined by his peers, predominately from local church organisations.

One such peer was Mr. Branko Jevtovic, who went on to become a future Fitzroy City SC president. He reflects on his early years and encounters with club founder Ostoja Pekic, “Ostoja was an incredibly charming man who was full of life. On one occasion he simply asked me if I play football. My reply was “only socially, nothing on an organized level”. He asked that I join him at Royal Park as they were always short of players, and thus a club was formed. Our first club tradition was attending Ostoja's house after games where he & his lovely wife would extend their hospitality and welcome us to wine & dine together. This is where our family community culture was born & still carries on till today”.

Over 60 years we've had stints as the original Carlton Serbia, Ringwood Serbia & Fitzroy City SC. These club name changes were brought about by our need to relocate our home base as we searched for better club grounds & facilities. This year, in what can only be described as our bravest & boldest move in our club's history, we have undergone what we believe will be our last ever name change, introducing FC Melbourne Serbia

Some of the club's notable achievements;

  • 1969 Victorian Provisional League champions
  • 1971 Victorian District League Central Divisions Champions
  • 1972 Victorian Provisional League Champions
  • 2000 Victorian State League Division Two North West Champions
  • 2009 Victorian Provisional League Division One South East Champions
  • 2019 Victorian State League Division Two North West Champions
  • 2023 Victorian State League Division One South East Champions

Our name change was an enormously proud moment for our club, as we are no longer tied to a particular suburb. We now represent the whole metropolitan area of greater Melbourne. Our name now exudes confidence, premiumness & prestige, and it is our first step into our 10-year growth plan. With an internationally recognized city as our base, our current level of diverse backgrounds & differing ethnicities will only continue to grow and prosper. There is no more an exciting time for you to proudly call it ‘my club’ too!

FC Melbourne is the oldest football club based in the Yarra Council area. Each year we welcome to our home ground approximately 70-80 opposition teams across all the various competitions that our teams play in.
